Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training

You Train delivers accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, equipping adults with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise and respond to a mental health problem or crisis. This course is suitable for workplaces, leaders, HR teams and individuals who want practical, evidence-based skills to support others.

This face-to-face, two-day program can be delivered over two consecutive days or split across two weeks, depending on what works best for your organisation. Participants have the option to complete a short online assessment to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider through Mental Health First Aid Australia.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the course, participants develop practical skills to:

  • identify signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions

  • recognise and respond to developing or worsening mental health problems

  • understand treatment and support options

  • apply an evidence-based MHFA Action Plan

  • support someone to seek professional help

  • overcome help-seeking barriers

  • maintain personal wellbeing while providing support

Accredited Mental Health First Aiders leave the course with the confidence to provide initial support until professional assistance is available or the situation stabilises.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • recognise early signs of mental health problems

  • initiate a safe and supportive conversation

  • provide initial assistance in crisis situations

  • understand risk factors, impacts and treatment options

  • use a structured action plan to guide their response

  • apply appropriate self-care strategies

Why Choose You Train?

Your MHFA course is delivered by a licensed MHFA Instructor with extensive experience in training, counselling, HR and WHS. This combination brings depth, empathy and real-world understanding to the delivery, making the course practical, engaging and relevant to diverse workplaces.

With workplaces increasingly focused on psychological health and safety, MHFA training is a valuable addition to any organisation’s approach to supporting staff, responding to mental health concerns and strengthening overall workplace capability.

Like physical first aid, mental health first aid provides crucial support until professional help is available. You Train delivers the program in a clear, respectful and accessible way, ensuring participants feel confident and supported throughout the learning.

Looking for a Shorter Mental Health Awareness Option?

Some workplaces prefer a shorter, more general mental health or psychosocial awareness session rather than the full two-day accredited program.

You Train also offers tailored mental health and psychosocial awareness workshops, which can be delivered as:

  • a two-hour introductory session

  • a half-day practical workshop

  • a one-day program focusing on awareness, conversation skills and workplace responsibilities

These sessions complement MHFA but are not a substitute for the accredited MHFA qualification. They are ideal for organisations wanting flexible, workplace-specific training.
